Free radicals have been implicated in the development of at least 50 diseases! This list includes inflammatory diseases, kidney disease, cataracts, colitis, skin lesions and aging to name a few.
The many toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis cause something called free radicals in the body, a reaction that can lead to disease.
In simplistic terms, free radicals are unstable molecules inside the body that attack stable molecular structures. These attacks can cause damage to healthy tissues, organs, cell membranes, and blood vessels, even DNA strands within the cell.
The world’s leading testing facility of antioxidants-Brunswick Biomedical Technologies Lab- describes the effects of free radical damage as this,” Overall, free radicals have been implicated in the development of at least 50 diseases! This list includes inflammatory diseases, kidney disease, cataracts, colitis, skin lesions and aging to name a few.
Of course heart disease and cancer are the two most widespread disease associated with free radical damage.
Also diseases such as Parkinsons, Alzheimers, lupus, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, and the list keep going.
There are two steps essential to fight off free radicals and help maintain or restore health. First is to avoid all the exposure to the problem! Stop eating so much of the processed foods, french fries and deserts. Avoid the toxic chemicals such as nutrasweet and many of the chemicals in skin care. No matter how many nutrients you take in, you still need to help by keeping some of the toxins out as well.
The other solution is simply taking antioxidants. These are substances that interact with free radicals and render them harmless. The benefits are almost endless.
In 2002 a US federal court instructed the FDA to allow the claim that antioxidants may prevent cancer.
Quoting the National Cancer Institute, “Free radical damage may lead to cancer. The antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals and may prevent some of the damage free radicals otherwise may cause. Considerable laboratory evidence from chemical, cell culture, and animal studies indicate that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer.”
There is a new class of antioxidants called xanthones, nature’s true healers. There are only about 200 xanthones currently known in nature, each with unique healing abilities. Some of the proven benefits of xanthones include:
- Antifatigue
- Antitumor
- Antiaging
- Lowering blood pressure
- Immunostimulent
- Cardioprotective
- Antiviral
- Antibiotic
- Antifungal
- Antidepressant
- Antiallergenic
- Antihistamine
- Anti-inflammatory
And the list keeps going! I highly recommend adding xanthones to your daily program for creating or maintaining optimal health.
