Unlike some anti-fungals, cellulase enzymes do not harm the liver and are completely safe. Candida yeast has no defense against them and cannot develop immunity to them. Finally, they do not trigger any kind of healing crisis, and many users begin to feel better almost immediately.

For maximum benefits, at least 200,000CU's ("CU" is the official U.S. Food Chemical Codex measure of cellulase enzyme activity) should be used daily. Study results for Candex
Total patients= 52 patients, ages is- xi. 80% of the patient population was female, in keeping with our typical patient population distribution. The time period in the study was 3/18/02 to6/27/02. Patients were selected randomly with no diagnostic exclusions exercised or necessitated.

Diagnosis is based on any of the following criteria:
A. Patient history as determined by extensive questionnaire and patient interview. Inherent in the patient’s history is usually frequent antibiotic, steroid and/or hormone usage. Typical positive responses usually include fatigue, malaise, difficulty losing weight despite dieting, feeling spaced out, difficulty concentrating, craving carbohydrates, diffuse arthralgias, diffuse myalgias, allergic symptoms, skin problems, to name a few.
B. Positive Comprehensive Diagnostic Stool Analysis (CDSA) as evidenced by pH abnormalities, positive candida culture and significant microscopic visualization of yeast mycelium.
C. Positive Bioterrain Analysis (BTA) reflected by positive fungi and increased physiologic stress on the adrenals, kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract.

Treatment is normally initiated one week following the patient’s initial intake after the patient has a gastrogram and is seen in turn by our Naturopathic physician (N.D.). This therapeutic regimen allows a natural treatment modality for at least three weeks prior to the patient’s being seen by one of our staff physicians (M.D.). Other treatment that is initiated at the same time Is a natural digestive enzyme prescribed for any abnormality found on the gastrogram as well as the registered dietitian (R.D.) places the patient on a low carbohydrate diet (20-100 grams/day) and appropriate probiotics.

Results: The results were excellent in that ALL patients had at least minimal improvement not only in any upper gastrointestinal symptoms (probably associated with the natural digestive enzyme), but also in lower gastrointestinal symptoms and yeast-associated problems (altered cognition, craving carbohydrates, arthralgias, myalgias, allergies, etc.). It was decided that because of the extreme efficacy of the Candex, there was no need to continue the study. As a side note, we have placed numerous patients on Candex with the same results.

Side effects: The side effects were minimal with only rare gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, etc.) that resolved when association with food intake was altered. This was deemed to not be statistically significant when compared to the use of placebo. There was no worsening of any GI symptoms associated with the use of Candex to include diarrhea. The only clinically significant problem associated with the use of Candex was the increased lysing of the cellulose wall in timed-release capsules such as the thyroid compounding that we use. If a patient was going to be placed on a timed.release capsule, we had to in turn discontinue Candex and place the patient on a traditional antifungal medication such as Difiucan or Nystatin.

Conclusions:

1. Candex is an extremely effective natural alternative for antifungal therapy.
2. Candex is equally well tolerated by males and females.
3. There are no statistically significant side effects associated with Candex usage.
4. The cost of Candex usage is significantly superior to that of Diflucan, the traditional drug of choice.
5. Although thyroid compounding is our treatment of choice, the possibility would exist that instead of changing the Candex, the thyroid medication be changed from a timed release capsule to Armour Thyroid.
6. Because of the above reasons, Candex should be the first choice for treatment of enteric candida patient population.
